I just stumbled upon the Papa Stour website today (thanks to Design Sponge)-and boy am I glad that I did! This website/online store has such unique and eclectic items-ranging from home decor objects to cowhide flasks! I really love the stuff on there.
The first thing I noticed when when entering this site was the gorgeous logo (in image above-current logo is on top and older logo is on bottom). I love the color choices, the silhouette, the type treatment...I pretty much love everything about this logo.
The old logo is also very nice and eclectic-I like the silhouette there as well-and the textured typography. I can see why they felt as though they needed an update, though. To some extent, the 3 parts of the logo (the silhouette, the large type and the smaller type) kind of feel disconnected, even though they are all tied together with the same color choice. Although I am sure the color choice was used to tie the three together-it seems to handicap it at the same time-makes it feel a bit drab, perhaps?
I like the fact that they changed the tag line from "a collection of Scotland's finest" to "Contemporary Craft and Design". The new tagline alone read as and gives more of a modern, up to date tone. The old tagline seems to hold the company back a bit-keeping it in an earlier time...if you will.
But all in all, great store, nice website design, and beautiful logo and branding! I hope you like it as much as I do. If you don't, you are crazy.
